Lions Clubs International - Halesworth Lions ClubOrdinary People doing Amazing Things |
Wings and Wheels started several years ago when we were asked to take over the Walpole Car Rally, and from then on it has become much bigger and better, with many more aircraft landing, and far more activities to interest all the family.
The
event is always held on the second Sunday in May every year in Henham Park, just
off the A12 and close to Halesworth and Southwold.
Henham Park is the ancestral home of the Rous Family (www.henhampark.com) which also hosts the annual Latitude Festival and Grand Henham Steam Rally.
Wings and Wheels took place on May 10th last year, and we were fortunate to have a beautiful day. The whole weekend was dry and sunny, and great for the members of the Caravan Club who were able to join us. It is always difficult to estimate numbers, but there were probably in excess of 5,000 people enjoying the event.
Highlights of the event in 2009 were superb displays of formation flying by the Tiger Club Turbulent Team and a breath-taking display by the Swift Aerobatic Team, featuring an amazing display by the British National Glider Champion, Guy Westgate. We shall be welcoming the Swift Team again in 2010.
During the day over 70 aircraft came and went, making a fabulous display as they parked near the crowd line. The aircraft came from all over the U.K., and we even had one make the trip over from Holland. There was also a large entry of classic cars, motor cycles, tractors and stationary engines.

Our 2010 event is still in the planning stage, but the two big attractions in the main ring will be performances by the Medieval Combat Society and the Wacky Tumblairs Comedy Trampoline Act. Entrance to these two events will be free.
We will not be increasing our entrance fee for Wings and Wheels for 2010. It will remain at £5.00 per adult and £2.50 for children from 5 – 14. Children below 5 are free of charge. As our entry fees are so low we do not give concessions, but feel sure that you will agree that with so much going on this is tremendous value for money.
If you are interested in entering your vehicle this year please complete the entry form available here, or contact Cathie Bertram on cassianne@tiscali.co.uk
If you are interested in entering your plane please contact johndhill@o2.co.uk. You can access a site plan by clicking here.
If you are interested in being a stall holder please complete the Wings and Wheels entry form which can be downloaded here, but please note that completing and returning the acceptance form does not necessarily imply acceptance. Caterers should send an email in the first place to helenharris721@binternet.com.
Once again the Caravan Club will hold a three-day rally during the weekend of the event. If you are a Caravan Club member and would like further information please contact Colin and Janet Goddard on janet.goddard@sky.com.
