Lions Clubs International - Halesworth Lions ClubOrdinary People doing Amazing Things |
Wings & Wheels started several years ago when we were asked us to take over The Walpole Car Rally.
The event has expanded over the years to include aviation entries and is
always held on the second Sunday in May every year in Henham Park, just off the
A12 and close to Halesworth and Southwold.
Henham Park is the ancestral home of the Rous Family (www.henhampark.com) which also hosts the annual Lattitude Concert and Henham Steam Rally.
Wings & Wheels is always held on the second Sunday in May, and in 2008 was on 11th May. We were so very fortunate with the weather; it was a dry and sunny weekend for once! It is always difficult to estimate numbers, but there were perhaps 5,000 or so adults and children having great fun.
Wings & Wheels always has a large entry of Classic Cars, Motor Cycles, Tractors and Stationary Engines – in 2008 there were well over 500 entrants.
In 2008 we were very fortunate to have a fly past of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (Lancaster and Hurricane) and also the incredible aerobatic display of the Team Guinot Wing Walkers. In addition, some 89 different aircraft landed during the day.
We’ve got some photos here of the 2008 event if you’re interested in seeing what it was like.

Our 2009 event is still in the planning stage, but one of the main attractions will be the Masquerade Circus and Workshops (www.masqueradecircus.moonfruit.com). Entrance will be free for both adults and children, ensuring something exciting even if the sun doesn’t shine!
We will not be increasing our entrance fee for Wings & Wheels for 2009; it remains at £5 per adult and £2.50 for children from 5-14. The real youngsters have free entry! We are sure that you will agree that with so many exciting events this is extremely good value.
If you’re interested in entering your vehicle in our next event, please complete the Entry Form available here or contact Ian Hall on ian.p.hall@bt.com.
